Akcent is a Romanian dance-pop act.Adrian Claudiu Sâna started the group in 1999. At the time, it consisted of him and his female counterpart, Ramona Barta.

Akcent's single "Kylie" has risen to the top of several European music charts. "Kylie" also became a moderate hit in North America, charting well on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart. Their debut Romanian album In culori was released in Romania on 10 January 2002, it included the hit single "Ti-am promis".
Their English debut album French Kiss with Kylie was released in Europe on 23 August 2006, it included their 2 European smash hits: "Kylie" and "Jokero". Their song French kiss (the English version of 9 mai) is a cover of "Extemporal la dirigentie" by Stela Enache (a Romanian singer that was highly acclaimed in the 80s and whose song "Ani de Liceu" with her husband is still a hit among teenagers).
In 2007, "King of disco" and "Red bikini" from the album, "King of Disco" became popular.
In April 2008 Marius Nedelcu left the band. Soon after Marius left, the three boys called in Corneliu Ulici, a former member of another Romanian group called Bliss. However, in September 2009, after 9 months, Corneliu Ulici left the band to dedicate his time to his acting career.
In 2008 Edward Maya was signed to produce Akcent's album: 'Fara Lacrimi' (No Tears) The international music hits: 'Stay With Me' , 'That's My Name' and Lover's Cry' were all under Edward Maya's brand / signature.
In 2009 the band released a new album, Fara Lacrimi. Two songs from the album, "Stay With Me" and "That's My Name," have become massive hits on radio stations in Romania as well as in number of other countries including: Greece, Armenia, Russia, Poland, Turkey, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Egypt, Pakistan , Ukraine, India, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Albania, Bangladesh, Brazil, Iran, Syria and UAE.

Career
In and around 2006, Maya worked with many Romanian artists (Akcent, Costi Ioniţă, Vika Jigulina,Cassa Loco, Studio One, Dj Rynno, Dj Sava, Marius Nedelcu, Blaxy Girls, Imba, Liviu Hodor). He worked also on the song Tornerò, which was performed by Mihai Trăistariu in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. He added in an interview on Beat-Town.com that this song "was the beginning of my career"
In the summer of 2009, Maya launched his first song as an artist, "Stereo Love", reaching number 2 in the Romanian singles charts. Later that year, "Stereo Love", became a hit in clubs all over the world. While this success was followed by concerts worldwide, the song entered the top-5 singles charts in Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
"Stereo Love" received over 110 million YouTube views since August 2009, for just one video. "Stereo Love" is the longest charting song in the history of European top Hot 100, accumulating 52 weeks.

Although there were many controversies regarding the original producer of these songs but in an interview with Ehsan Yar - Maya confirmed the album was produced in Akcent studio and also states It was a team work and he's still friends with Akcent.
On May 13, 2010, Maya released his second single "This Is My Life". To help maintain control of his career and provide opportunities for other artists, Maya has formed his own record label, Mayavin Records.
Maya released the song and video for his third single "Desert Rain" on Christmas night worldwide. In an interview Edward Maya talked about his Desert Rain tour he mentions he'll start off with India and later he will be touring Europe, US, South Africa and Pakistan.
Maya is planning to release a new single "Mono In Love" by mid 2011.

Eduard Marian Ilie (born June 29, 1986), better known by his stage name Edward Maya, is a singer-songwriter,and record producer. Edward Maya is a whole musical package (producer, performer, composer, musician) of Romania. He finished high school music George Enescu in Bucharest, Romania. He is currently in final year student at the Conservator of music, at only 19 years makes with E. Carcota a song by the size of Europe for well-known Eurovision contest, directly on 4 place (Michael Treistariu - Tornero).
